Wednesday Feb 19, 2020
Wednesday Feb 19, 2020
Matchy Matchy is not a thing anymore. You probably know this, but the question is; do you know what TO DO about it? The lack of variety in colors, in wood and in textures made spaces flat, lack personality and look entry-level…the opposite of a relaxing, designer abode. How do you come to a combination of colors in the room that feel good but aren't matchy matchy? We'll dive into that today.

Let’s talk about dealing with all of it.

Plants can make a massive difference in the ambiance of your interior, cultivating relaxation and peace. They contribute positively both to our mental health and our physical health. My plant hobby has grown to an all-out obsession these days. But what is interesting is that I began life with a "for-reals" black thumb situation. Whether you already like plants, you want plants and have never had success, or you never gave house plants a thought, this episode is for you!

1. Watering Bulbs: These "bird" shaped bulbs with the open mouths for adding water is what I have been successfully using in my hanging plants (and in some outdoor plants even for the hottest time of the year.)
2. French lavender (Lavandula dentata) can grow well indoors. They’re not as fragrant as English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), but they are capable of adapting better to indoor environments. Two other good types to consider; Canary Island lavender (Lavandula canariensis) and Fern leaf lavender (Lavandula multifida) which tolerates wet conditions better than other lavenders. <--- I am ordering one today and will update you on how it goes in the Home Space and Reason Group Facebook page (link above!) I’ll be interested to see if I can pull off not just keeping it alive but achieving a bloom and the scent that makes this an ideal concept in theory - but we’ll see if I can pull it off in real life! Episode 6 | Lighting and Windows
Friday Oct 11, 2019
Friday Oct 11, 2019
Natural light is essential to our happiness and sense of well-being. Light gives you a feeling of peace and serenity. There are many types of lighting to discuss here…the natural kind and the man-made kind. Light is a major contributor to the atmosphere you create. Are you giving thought to every purchase and ensuring each space is working to its maximum capability?
Get your home lighting right. Consider this puzzle carefully. It is an art. The wrong color bulb can make your living room feel cold and unwelcoming but the right one can make the same room feel warm, inviting and ideal to hang in for long periods of time. Does your home have different kinds of lighting for projects and for entertaining guests?
Here's a breakdown of light bulb color temperature:
•Soft white (2,700 to 3,000 Kelvin) is warm and yellow, the typical color range you get from incandescent bulbs. This light gives a warm and cozy feeling and is often best for living rooms, dens and bedrooms.
•Warm white (3,000 to 4,000 Kelvin) is more yellowish-white. These bulbs are best suited for kitchens and bathrooms.
•Bright white (4,000 to 5,000 Kelvin) is between white and blue tones. With a less cozy and more energetic feel, bulbs with this color range are best for work spaces (like a home office or garage)
•Daylight (5,000 to 6,500 Kelvin) has a more bluish tone. This light color will maximize contrast for colors, making it ideal for working, reading or applying makeup.
